Read our top sports predictions and analysis of the 2026/27 season below before picking your football bets.
Who will win Ligue 1 2026/27
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are the overwhelming favourites and is our expert pick here at Stake to win the 2026/27 Ligue 1 title. They’ve won the league 5 seasons in a row, and have won 12 out of the last 14 seasons.
This period of dominance followed their takeover by Qatar Sports Investments. The investment into the club has transformed PSG into not only a domestic powerhouse, but a European one too.
PSG has won back-to-back Champions League titles. They have an extremely talented squad that includes Ousmane Dembele, Joao Neves, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and they are coached by Luis Enrique.
The Ligue 1 2026/27 race behind PSG
Marseille are the main favourites to win the title race behind PSG. They finished runners-up in 2024/25 and 2021/22, and they have a solid transfer window this summer. New signings such as Facundo Medina, Timothy Weah and Hamed Traore could make a difference.
It’s also worth considering Monaco in the 2026/27 Ligue 1 title race. Although they finished 7th last season, this could be an advantage if they’re not competing in the Champions League and can fully focus on Ligue 1. This summer, they acquired Mathhis Abline and Ansu Fati along with Sadibou Sane and Nazinho.
Lens finished as runners-up in Ligue 1 last season, only 6 points behind the champions. However, they’ve lost key players in the summer transfer window. Selling Mamadou Sangare to the Premier League will be a big loss unless they reinvest the transfer fee well. Not only that, but their highly regarded manager, Pierre Sage, has left the club.
Lille finished 3rd last season but were well behind the top 2. They avoided selling any key players thanks to the revenue they earned with their excellent performance in the Champions League last season. Still, without major additions to the squad, they will struggle to compete with PSG.
Aside from betting on who will win the Ligue 1 title race, you can also bet on the title race excluding PSG at Stake. This offers greater value, with several teams competing for 2nd place. Higher finishes in Ligue 1 also mean a chance of European qualification.
Ligue 1 2026/27 Champions League and European qualification predictions
We’re predicting the following teams to earn spots in European competition:
Paris Saint-Germain
Monaco
Marseille
Lille
Lens
Stade Rennais
Ligue 1 offers 6 European competition places, with the top 3 teams all qualifying for the Champions League league phase. The 4th-place team qualifies for the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League, while teams in 5th place enter the Europa League league phase. Teams in 6th will qualify for the Conference League playoff round.
Ligue 1 2026/27 relegation predictions
Le Mans have an amazing story, returning to Ligue 1 after 17 years away from the top level of French football. However, we predict they’ll be relegated this season. Although they’ve made some shrewd signings, there hasn’t been enough investment in the squad to make it competitive.
Troyes could also struggle this season. Although they’re part of the City Financial Group, there hasn’t been a lot of investment in the team. They’ve also sold some key players, including Mathys Detourbet, who was integral to their Ligue 2-winning season.
Angers had a difficult season in 2025/26, battling relegation and finishing 13th. This season, they’re one of the teams tipped to go down, partly because they’ve been operating under sanctions following financial issues. However, they’ve cleared their debts by selling key players such as Sidiki Cherif to the Turkish Super Lig.
Last season, Nice won the relegation playoff spot after finishing 16th, meaning they got to stay in Ligue 1 for at least another season. However, without major squad changes, they could get sucked into another relegation fight.
Ligue 1 2026/27 dark horses and surprise picks
Lens are our dark horse pick to watch for this season. They have had a major managerial change this summer and lost the talented Mamadou Sangare. However, the big sale may help if they reinvest wisely. Meanwhile, if they maintain their energetic style of play while keeping their defence strong, they have an excellent chance to upset the odds. Robin Risser has proved invaluable for them in goal, keeping 11 clean sheets last season.
Ligue 1 is an exceptional league for developing talent, with many of Europe's biggest clubs scouting players in France. This season, look out for the emerging talent of Ibrahim Mbaye at PSG, as the lightning-fast right winger looks to make his mark on the team.
We’ll also be watching Robin Risser closely. The goalkeeper transferred from Red Star FC in Ligue 2 to Lens in Ligue 1 last season and has looked like an impressive part of the team despite his inexperience.
Esteban Lepaul finished as the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 last season, scoring an impressive 21 league goals for Stade Rennais. If he continues his excellent form, he could help his team challenge for European qualification.
Ligue 1 2026/27 top scorer prediction
We’re picking Esteban Lepaul to win the Ligue 1 Golden Boot once more in the 2026/27 season. The Stade Rennais striker had a breakout year last season, attracting attention from major teams across Europe. However, he’s staying put for now and will look to replicate last season’s form.
While PSG have top attacking talent like Ousmane Dembele and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia in the Golden Boot race, they tend to rest them in the league. PSG prioritised Champions League fixtures, which means their top players don’t score as many goals in Ligue 1.
